MAROON AND WHITE RALLY ENDS SHORT IN SERIES OPENER

ALPINE, TEXAS – McMurry University launched three home runs at Sul Ross State University's venerable Kokrenot Field Thursday, April 6. Still, the big flies couldn't get the War Hawks to snap a recent American Southwest Conference slump.

Sophomore outfielder Xavier Escobar (Buda, Texas), freshman infielder Riley Hood (Abilene, Texas), and sophomore infielder Dylan Lee (Hutto, Texas) each got Lobo pitches up and out of the park for head coach Josh Lee's squad. However, Sul Ross State seemingly had answers at every turn, plating four in the first and then turning away a War Hawks comeback that brought them to within 6-5 in the middle innings to claim an 11-7 decision in the first of three league contests between the two sides.

Escobar and Lee paced the nine-hit attack for the visitors, combining for five RBI. Freshman starting pitcher Cooper Marshall (Boerne, Texas) went right at the home line-up, striking out six in five frames, but the Lobos found long ball range twice during the evening.

McMurry (11-16 overall, 6-10 ASC) looks to snap a four-game skid Friday, April 7. The doubleheader portion of the southwestern Lone Star State set is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
