ABILENE, TEXAS – The freshman tandem of
Ty Edwards (Brackettville, Texas) and Nicholas Villalovos (Hereford, Texas) claimed three-set battles, spotlighting a rally for McMurry University in non-conference action Wednesday, March 8.
Both rallied from a first-set loss against their opponents from Oklahoma Wesleyan University. Edwards won 6-2 in the second and strolled 10-1 in the third. Villalovos scratched his way to a hard-fought 7-6 second-set win and held on 10-6 in the third set.
Their wins were part of a 4-2 comeback in singles for head coach
Chris Breaux's team. The Maroon and White also picked up straight-set decisions from freshmen Alfredo Avila (Hereford, Texas) and Eh Ruh Soe (Dumas, Texas), pushing the outcome in McMurry's favor by a 5-4 score.
The War Hawks' triumph moved their record to 4-7, stopping a three-dual slide. McMurry returns to action Friday, March 17, traveling to Concordia University of Austin.
