Hannah DeFriend (Groesbeck, Texas) claimed a thrilling victory at number six singles, and McMurry University and Hardin-Simmons University's women's doubles teams battled tooth and nail, spotlighting American Southwest Conference action Friday, March 24.
DeFriend and the Cowgirls' Jonnah Smith kept fans at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center glued to their seats as the annual crosstown league clash wound down. DeFriend took set one 6-4, but Smith answered with a 7-6 decision to force a tiebreaker. DeFriend managed to gain a team point for head coach

On the men's side of the ledger, HSU claimed a 9-0 victory. Freshman Eh Kuh Soe (Dumas, Texas) took the Cowboys' Davyn Williford to a three-set finish at number five singles, dropping a tight-knit 10-6 tiebreaker. Soe proved strong in doubles play, too, joining senior
Dylan Bryant (Ovalo, Texas) to pick up fiour game triumphs at number two.
