McMurry University's Esports teams are just over two weeks into the 2023 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference schedule.
 
Head coach Matt Tarpley's War Hawks have produced a combined record of 7-10 since the fall of 2022 Halo and the 2023 Valorant, Rocket League, League of Legends, and Overwatch seasons have been in progress. This past week, the Rocket League swept past Southwestern University 42-13, 47-17 while the League of Legends powered past previous unbeaten Concordia University of Austin 2-3, 1-0, 2-3, 1-0, 3-2 for the best-of-five 3-2 victory. The two victories stopped a combined program three-match losing streak.
 
"It was great on two fronts of the Rocket League team," Tarpley noted. "It was their first victory of the year while knocking off an unbeaten opponent."
 
Team members Trent Lewis, Preston Stal, and Breauna Soto led the way for Rocket League Wednesday, Feb. 22. Lewis put up five goals, 10 saves, and 17 shots. Stal finished with three goals, two assists, four saves, and seven shots, and Soto, in her first varsity competition, contributed one goal, four assists, three saves, and seven shots. The League of Legends triumph over Southwestern Tuesday, Feb. 21, was guided by Austin Sharp (7218 average per game), Dustin Ledesma (23299 average per game), Elijah Munson (18655 average per game), Nathaniel Griffin (30132 average per game), and James Bell (11015 average per game). In the other two spring semester disciplines, Apex was up to 153 points through two weeks via a cumulative score situation throughout the season, and Valorant stood 1-2. Overwatch begin a weekend schedule on Feb. 18 with a 2-0 loss to Loyola Marymount University.
