Box Score McMurry University's Lady War Hawks had a rousing start to the 2023-24 season, beating Arlington Baptist University 88-67 Wednesday, Nov. 8, in Kimbrell Arena.
Leading the charge was junior guard/forward
Emily Holland (Mansfield, Texas) with 24 points. Her scoring barrage took place less than a week after the two-sport athlete played alongside her soccer teammates in a conference tournament semifinal game. Also in double figures were sophomore guard
Helana Chadwick (La Vernia, Texas) with 13 points, senior guard/forward
Taya Bridges (Mesquite, Texas) with 11 and sophomore forward/center
Aryana Cleveland (San Antonio, Texas) with 10.
Chadwick was 3 of 5 from three-point land and Holland was 4 of 8. Bridges was 5 of 6 in free throws and Holland was 4 of 5. Cleveland led in rebounding with 8 (5 offensive and 3 defensive). Bridges and Cleveland each had two steals.

Drew Long's team had its biggest lead with 24 points at the 4:09 mark in the third quarter and went on an 18-point run in the second quarter. Also in the second stanza, McMurry outscored the opponent 35 to 14. The Lady War Hawks had 14 second-chance points and had a lead for over 25 minutes.
McMurry, 1-0, hosts Schreiner University at 5:30 p.m. Friday. The men will have their season opener at 7:30 p.m. Friday against Schreiner also in Kimbrell Arena.
