MCMURRY SNAPS SKID, EVENS ASC RECORD

MARSHALL, TEXAS – An early October American Southwest Conference offensive battle proved intense for fans attending East Texas Baptist University's Cornish Field on Thursday, Oct. 5.

McMurry University and the host Tigers produced 31 shots, with ten being on frame. Five total goals lit up the scoreboard as head coach Marquis Muse's War Hawks used a two-goal second-half advantage toward a 3-2 road victory.

Junior midfielder Dylan Caudle (San Angelo, Texas) buried a pivotal penalty kick in the 73rd minute to give the Maroon and White some needed breathing room. His team-leading fourth score of the year was his second career game-winning strike, as ETBU managed one more tally but couldn't achieve the equalizer.

The first 45 were on the verge of being scoreless until junior forward Herbie Martinez (League City, Texas) registered his first goal of the season, doing so in the 44th minute. Muse's crew came out of the locker room with momentum off the late first-half score as sophomore forward Armando Saldana (Wichita Falls, Texas) posted a goal in the 69th minute.

Stopping an 0-5-2 stretch since winning their season opener, the Maroon and White improved to 2-5-2 overall and 1-1 in the ASC. Sophomore goalkeeper Griffin Cardwell (Plano, Texas) gained the win in net with one save to his credit.

McMurry resumes its current road trip on Saturday, Oct. 7. They take on LeTourneau University in a 6 p.m. kickoff.
