PLAINVIEW, TEXAS – Battling back from a pair of one-goal deficits in the first and second stanzas Saturday, Oct. 7, McMurry University wrapped up a 1-0-1 weekend American Southwest Conference tour.
The War Hawks, taking their record to 2-5-3 and 1-1-1 in the league, received successful offensive strikes from the sophomore forward tandem of
Armando Saldana (Wichita Falls, Texas) in the 62
nd minute and
Arik Phillips (Willis Point, Texas) with less than two minutes remaining in regulation. Saldana's goal completed an impressive personal span, as he wound up the Friday/Saturday set with two goals on just three shots on frame.
Defensively, sophomore goalkeeper
Griffin Cardwell (Plano, Texas) staved off two of the host Yellow Jackets' on-frame tries in the nip-and-tuck league clash, as the two teams were separated by only five shots (16-11) and were dead even on many statistical categories. Cardwell, aided by his back-line teammates, closed out the weekend matches with a 1-0-1 record.
McMurry returns home Thursday, Oct. 12, to take on Howard Payne University. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m.
