BROWNWOOD, TEXAS – McMurry University battled back from a slow offensive start with a sky-high .313 attack percentage in the third set Tuesday, Oct. 10, at Howard Payne University.
Head coach
Cammie Petree's War Hawks, after falling 25-12, 25-20 in the first two stanzas, roared past the Yellow Jackets 25-18 in the third frame. That momentum carried over into the fourth set, as the two sides were tied at 12-12. However, from that point, the hosts reeled off six of the following seven points and didn't look back to close out the American Southwest Conference match with a 25-21 decision.
The freshman duo of middle/right side hitter
Rylie Patterson (Amarillo, Texas) and outside/right side hitter
Jennika Willis (Abilene, Texas) led the Maroon and White up front. Patterson hammered nine kills, served an ace, and posted four block assists. Willis finished with eight kills and four block assists. Junior outside hitter
Jacee Dinkins (Azle, Texas) was next in line with eight kills, one block assist, and nine digs.
McMurry (1-18, 0-7 ASC) travels to Alpine, Texas, for a non-conference match at Sul Ross State University on Saturday, Oct. 14. First serve is noon at SRSU's Ornelas Gym.
