DRAW SPOTLIGHTS BUSY WEEKEND

ABILENE, TEX. – Freshman forward Jordan Katende's second successive match with a goal allowed head coach Marquis Muse's McMurry University men's soccer team to draw perennial NCAA Division III power Wheaton College of Illinois Friday, Sept. 17.

Katende took a loose ball in the box in front of the visiting Thunder's net and slipped it into the right side of the goal to forge a 1-1 tie with less than 25 minutes remaining. Muse's crew continued to battle for an eventual match-winner but saw its first draw of the season.

The freshman joined senior forward Andres Martinez (Horizon City, Tex.) and freshman defender Justin Ajdukovich (Frisco, Tex.) with three shot attempts apiece for the home offense. Freshman goalkeeper Griffin Cardwell (Plano, Tex.) amassed two saves.

A run of four successive home matches concluded Sunday, Sept. 18, with a 4-0 less to Texas Lutheran University. The Bulldogs managed a pair of scores in each half for the decision.

McMurry (1-4-1) competes in a weekend tourney hosted by the University of Dallas Friday, Sept. 23, and Sunday, Sept. 25. The War Hawks take on Centenary College of Louisiana Friday at 5:30 p.m. and the University of Dallas at 2 p.m. Sunday in Irving, Tex.
