ABILENE, TEX. - A recent skein of three victories in their last four contests was toppled for McMurry University Tuesday, Sept. 13.
Hosting a Mary-Hardin-Baylor squad receiving votes on the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, head coach Cammie Petree's team was swept up by the Cru 25-12, 25-22, 25-23 on their Kimbrell Arena floor.
A high-flying .303 attack percentage in set one got UMHB off to a fast start. While the visitors managed less than a .100 accuracy mark in set two and were below .300 in the third set, McMurry couldn't overcome a .034 first set offensive performance despite coming back at .137 and .217 to end the evening.
Senior defensive specialist Adile Leal (Clute, Tex.) dug up 17 Cru attack attempts and also served up an ace. Leal was also active offensively with four assists. Sophomore outside hitter Keetyn Davis (Abilene, Tex.) and junior middle/right side hitter Addyson Tiffin (Bushland, Tex.) combined for 17 kills which were aided by 14 assists from sophomore setter Ashlyn Quillan (Van Alstyne, Tex.).
Petree's squad, dipping to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in the league, welcomes crosstown rival Hardin-Simmons Friday, Sept. 16, for a 6 p.m. battle in conference competition.
