ASC SCHEDULE OPENS ON HIGH NOTE

ABILENE, TEX. - The home court surroundings of Kimbrell Arena were just to the liking of head coach Cammie Petree's McMurry University squad Friday and Saturday, Sept. 9 and 10.

Sophomore middle hitter Bri Garcia (Abilene, Tex.) and junior middle/right side hitter Addyson Tiffin (Bushland, Tex.) were a nearly unstoppable offensive force against Sul Ross St. and Howard Payne University. Garcia hammered 20 kills at the two defenses, while Tiffin added 18. Sophomore setter Ashlyn Quillan (Van Alstyne, Tex.) was a catalyst for the play up front tossing up a total of 48 assists during a four-set win over Sul Ross and a sweep of Howard Payne.

Continuing to highlight a slew of impressive numbers for the home side, senior defensive specialist Adile Leal (Clute, Tex.) (16 digs, one service ace vs. Howard Payne/21 digs and one service ace vs. Sul Ross St.); freshman setter Lexi Miller (Abilene, Tex.) (26 assists, nine digs vs. Sul Ross St.); and sophomore outside hitter Keetyn Davis (Abilene, Tex.) (seven digs, four service aces vs. Sul Ross St. and 13 digs against Howard Payne) also shone brightly for the Maroon and White.

The two wins moved Petree's crew to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in the league. McMurry, winners of three of their last four, remain in their friendly confines for a clash with Mary-Hardin-Baylor Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 6 p.m. The battle with the Cru is part of a current run of six successive home dates.
