AUSTIN COLLEGE STAVES OFF WAR HAWKS

SHERMAN, TEXAS – A consistent theme of balanced scoring was at the forefront of a third straight American Southwest Conference – Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference thriller for McMurry University Friday, Nov. 18.

The visiting War Hawks battled host Austin College to the final seconds inside AC's Hughey Gymnasium in an 89-86 defeat. Head coach Zach Pickelman's side, despite slipping to 0-3 in the early season, kept after the Kangaroos even after trailing by as much as 15 in the opening 20 minutes. McMurry had a look at a tie with a three-pointer on its last possession in regulation, but it fell off.

Senior guard Remy Minor (Chicago, Ill.), reaching double figures for the sixth time in his last seven contests dating back to the late stages of the 2021-22 campaign, had a stellar night at the charity stripe, connecting on 12-of-13 attempts towards a 23-point effort. He was just an assist off of a double-double. Junior post player Elias Garcia (Houston, Texas) was in the same territory forging 14 points and nine rebounds.

Freshman guard Elijah Lomas (San Antonio, Texas) chipped in 14 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Sophomore guard Matt Pena (El Paso, Texas) was red-hot from outside the arc, canning his first five three-point attempts en route to 15 points. Junior CJ LeBlanc (Dallas, Texas) contributed 16 points and three assists.

McMurry resumes a current span of four games in a row with a visit to Trinity University in San Antonio Friday, Nov. 25. Game time is 2 p.m. at Ron and Genie Calgaard Gymnasium.
