SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – A pair of future Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference in-state foes gave fans of McMurry and Trinity University plenty to look forward to on the hardwood Friday, Nov. 25.
 
The War Hawks, in search of their initial 2022-23 victory, and the D3Hoops.com top 20-ranked Tigers went down to the wire at TU's Ron and Genie Calgaard Gymnasium. Head coach Zach Pickelman's side, responding to an early 18-9 deficit, overtook their hosts with a 20-3 stretch for an eight-point advantage (29-21) with less than seven minutes to go in the first half. From that point, neither team held that big of a lead the rest of the way.
 
McMurry appeared on the verge of closing out Trinity after sophomore Matt Pena (El Paso, Texas) drilled a three-pointer with 6:36 remaining to break up a 72-72 tie. However, the Tigers had one more burst, tallying 12 of the next 15 en route to a 91-85 decision.
 
Senior guard Remy Minor (Chicago, Ill.), continuing a skyrocketing season start, corralled his fourth straight double-digit scoring outing. He tallied 25 points, dished out a team-best seven assists, and picked off three steals. Junior guard C.J. LeBlanc (Dallas, Texas) added to the Maroon, Black, and White's backcourt superlatives with 22 points, two assists, and two steals. Pena finished just two points short of three War Hawks in the 20s, and sophomore T.J. Hilliard (New Orleans, La.) was prominent in the paint, contributing a double-double of 10 points and 12 1rebounds.
 
McMurry plays its fifth non-conference date against their soon-to-be league home Saturday, Nov. 26. Game time against Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, is 4 p.m.
