Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

PIVOTAL ROAD TRIUMPH KEEPS WAR HAWKS IN ASC UPPER ECHELON

For the sixth time in seven victories this season, McMurry University's women's soccer program recipe was a 90-minute clean sheet.

Looking to rebound from a 4-0 loss to American Southwest Conference power Mary-Hardin-Baylor on Oct. 20, head coach Charles Nobles' squad dug their heels in against Concordia University on its Round Rock Multipurpose Complex Saturday, Oct. 22. Junior goalkeeper Priscella Caruso (Tomball, Texas) made it six shutouts on the season, repelling two Tornado shot on goal attempts. Meanwhile, on offense, sophomore forward Emily Holland (Mansfield, Texas) struck her eighth goal of the season, also her fourth game-winning score and sophomore midfielder/forward Jaelynn Portillo (Grand Prairie, Texas) became the seventh team member to register a goal this season en route to a 2-0 victory.

Holland's two total attempts, both on frame, led to eight offensive strikes for Nobles' squad. McMurry (7-5-2 overall, 5-2 ASC) did their level best to try and offset a 20-1 Cru shots advantage Thursday in Belton, Texas. However, the top 20-ranked UMHB used two goals just over three minutes apart in the latter stages of the first half to break open the contest.

Caruso and junior netminder Cortlynn Boone combined for nine saves against the potent home side attack. Sophomore defender Shelby Willey (Tomball, Texas) fired off a shot on goal, but it was knocked aside to preserve the Cru's shutout.

The War Hawks, with home matches against UT-Dallas and the University of Ozarks remaining on their regular season, sit fourth, just percentage points behind Hardin-Simmons University for a spot in the top three.
