SHREVEPORT, LA. – As the 2022-23 season continues in its early season, McMurry University head men's and women's swimming coach
Arthur Wang looks for the War Hawks to hit important road markers.
"I'm impressed with our efforts over this condensed schedule (at Centenary College)," he reflected after McMurry swept the dual competition by 250-51 (men) and 209-93 (women) scores. "Our student-athletes were able to expand their swimming repertoires and experience college race distances.
I'm confident the results would not have been the same had we stayed at home for practice," he added.
The freshman tandem of
Caitlyn Sauer (Anthem, Ariz.) (400-yard individual medley/100-yard backstroke/500-yard freestyle/200-yard backstroke) and
Maddy Rohrer (Auburn, Wash.) (50-yard freestyle/100-yard breaststroke/200-yard breaststroke/100-yard freestyle) guided the women. On the men's side of the dual, junior
Jaxon Batten (Abilene, Texas) and freshman
Montgomery Cortez (Corpus Christi, Texas) had the same results. Batten was a winner in the 100-yard, 200-yard, 500-yard and 1000-yard freestyle races. Cortez turned in first-place results in the 100-yard and 200-yard backstrokes and the 400-yard individual medley.
Wang and his teams now have back-to-back home events. They compete in the annual alumni meet Friday, Oct. 21, as part of Homecoming 2022 festivities and take on the University of Ozarks Friday and Saturday, Nov. 4 and 5.
"As I mentioned in our season preview, we will learn a lot about ourselves as the season progresses," McMurry's head coach noted. "We certainly have during this weekend."
