Swimming ends regular season on high note

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – McMurry Swimming closed out the regular season with a double-dual meeting against the University of the Ozarks and Williams Baptist on Saturday in Clarksville, Ark. Ending on a high note, the McMurry women earned its first win of the year with a 108-58 defeat over WBU.

"We had a very challenging spring semester," said head coach Arthur Wang. "We had not seen any action since December due to unforeseen circumstances. Therefore, we were very excited to have an opportunity to compete just before conference championships. Most importantly, the women were able to secure a win to close the season, which is very exciting."

Although the women slipped against Ozarks by a score of 182-77, McMurry would make up the difference against WBU.

Out the gate, the War Hawks would claim the first event of the day, earning a top finish in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:04.94.

Shortly after her first leg haul in the opening relay, Melanie Jimenez registered a first place finish in the 50-yard backstroke (33.08) for a new personal best.

Freshman Lorin Mow added a PB of her own with a win in the 100 butterfly (1:07.75). Mow later tallied a third place finish in the 100 free with a PB time of 59.06.

Cheyenne Lavender swam her best 50 free (28.91) to earn second, while also finishing fifth in the 100 free (1:03.62).

Senior Kristina Sullivan notched wins in the 100 breastroke (1:17.15) and the 500 free (5:53.30). Sullivan rounded out her day by placing third in the 100-yard individual medley with a time of 1:10.00.

Men's swimming set multiple team best marks despite dropping its first two duals since November of 2019.

Sophomore Jaxon Batten registered three top-three finishes, including a first-place finish in the 500 free. Batten earned the win at 5:15.84, just ahead of teammate Eduardo Gonzalez, who finished third in 5:17.18.

Batten also snagged second in the 200 free (1:51.68) and finished third in the 100 free (51.57). Both times for those events marked new team bests for the season.

Freshman Caleb Bush tallied his best performance on the day in the 100 breast, finishing first in 1:03.60. He also earned second in the 50 breast (28.63).

Logan Pritchett tagged third in both the 50 breast and the 50 free. He also concluded the day as the last leg of the 200 free relay, powering McMurry to second place in the final event of the meet.

Ozarks' men and women earned a clean sweep in the double-dual battle, while WBU tallied a win against the McMurry men by just a 12 point margin.
