HOUSTON, Texas – McMurry University Men's Soccer was unable to climb its way back into the fight, as St. Thomas (TX) would power its way to a 7-1 win in Houston Saturday afternoon.
The War Hawks (0-2) faced a tough deficit as they would find themselves down 3-0 halfway through the first frame. McMurry was able to register one goal midway through the first, but the Celts would ultimately claim the win.
Offensively, the Celts proved to be strong from the jump, netting three goals in the first half of play. UST's Gabe Salako owned all three first half goals, while Juan Gutierrez claimed three second half goals and Daniel Castro added another.
UST took a total of 26 shots on the day with 15 on goal, while McMurry finished with six shots and three on goal.
Freshman midfielder
Lester McCarty led the McMurry offensive attack after scoring his first collegiate goal in the 24th minute. He would go on to finish with the team high of two shots.

Jaren Ulibarri also contributed a shot in the match as well.
Freshman
Orion Patterson fought through a tough first half at goalkeeper, registering five saves on nine total shots.
Angel Salazar also recorded three saves in the matchup, while
Christopher Mora-Brandt posted one.
The War Hawks will look to bounce back next week as they travel to Kerrville, Texas to face Schreiner on Sept. 10. Game time is set for 12 p.m.
