ABILENE, Texas – Kick started by a celebration of McMurry University's seniors, the War Hawks fought hard in a tough matchup against crosstown rival Hardin-Simmons but was unable to defeat the Cowboys, falling 6-3 Friday afternoon at the Streich Tennis Center.
The War Hawks are now 5-7 overall and 2-1 in the American Southwest Conference, while HSU moves to 7-6 overall and 4-0 in the ASC.
Prior to first serve, McMurry honored seniors

Carlos Martinez and
Matthew Santos with a special ceremony.
"We fought hard in a tough match but didn't quite come out on top," said head coach
Chris Breaux. "No matter the outcome, I'm still proud of our players efforts and thankful for the leadership my seniors have shown this season."
HSU earned the win by claiming two doubles matches and four singles.
Despite the loss, doubles duo Martinez and
Chase Daniell pulled out a big win at No. 1 doubles, defeating Alex Pavkovich and Desmond O'Shea, 8-5.
Martinez continued his efforts at No. 1 singles, earning the match by a score of 6-4, 7-5.
Connor Hogan would claim the third point for McMurry at No. 4 singles, winning 6-4, 7-5 in tough matchup against HSU's Josh Lopez.
McMurry will have a quick turn around as they will have a non-conference rematch against NCAA Division I foe Abilene Christian University tomorrow, April 17 at the Eager Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for noon.
