BELTON, Texas – The McMurry Men's Tennis squad earned its first win on the road, taking down Mary Hardin-Baylor by a score of 7-2 Saturday afternoon.
McMurry is now 5-6 on the season, 2-0 in American Southwest Conference play while UMHB moves to (2-6, 2-1 ASC).
The War Hawks powered their way to a victory by claiming two doubles matchups and five singles matches.
Pushing through No. 2 doubles,
Reid Smith and
Trey Fambrough earned McMurry's first point with a 8-5 decision against Robert Galligan and Bret Irby.
Senior
Carlos Martinez and junior
Chase Daniell added to the McMurry point column with another win at No. 1 doubles. The duo earned the win by a score of 8-4.
Heading into singles play with a 2-1 lead, UMHB would even the score with a No. 2 singles win over Daniell.
Shortly after,
Connor Hogan would secure No. 4 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win over UMHB's Bret Irby.
Taking back the lead, the War Hawks would hit the gas pedal and dominate the final four matchups to seal the win.
Martinez finished No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-3 defeat over Alejandro Omana.
Reid Smith earned No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-1.
Chris Causer claimed No. 5 singles by a score of 6-2, 6-1, while Fambrough concluded the day with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles.
The War Hawks look to continue the win streak as they will face crosstown rival, Hardin-Simmons, on Friday, April 16 at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
