ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Women's Soccer honored nine seniors on Sunday afternoon at Wilford Moore Stadium, but were unable to get the win against NCAA Division II opponent Lubbock Christian in a 3-0 defeat.
Following the contest, McMurry celebrated the careers of Sky Reynolds, Calista Flores, Courtney Kendrick, Angelica Navarro, Brianna Pina, Cindy Villasana and Emily Fisher, as well as former players turned student coaches in Ashley Ray and Maddy Smith.
McMurry (1-4, 1-3 American Southwest Conference) continued a tough gauntlet of opponents with Lubbock Christian, rounding out a four-game stretch against defending ASC Champions Hardin-Simmons, NCAA Division I opponent Louisiana Tech and ASC contender Mary Hardin-Baylor.
The Lady Chaps (2-2, 0-1 Lone Star Conference) scored an early goal in the 11th minute and added two in the second half in the win. The team took 12 shots with seven on net.
Despite the loss, McMurry played a fairly-even game with 10 shots and five on target. Both teams attempted six corner kicks. The War Hawks had four saves – two from Cindy Villasana and one each from freshmen Cortlynn Boone and Brianna Monroe.
Sophomore Alyssa Daily led the team with three shots – one on target – and junior Kate Holland added a pair of shots – both on target.
The War Hawks return to conference play next Sunday with a match against Sul Ross State. Kickoff is set for noon in Abilene.
