War Hawks blank Howard Payne at home, 3-0

ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University clicked on all cylinders against Howard Payne on Friday afternoon, earning a 3-0 shutout victory in American Southwest Conference play at Wilford Moore Stadium.

The War Hawks (2-4, 1-2 ASC) scored a pair of goals within the first 20 minutes to take the early advantage – the first of which came in the 12th minute by junior Kate Holland on a pass from fellow junior Ashland Hansen. It was Holland's first goal of the season.

Less than 10 minutes later, senior Sky Reynolds netted her second goal of the year on a pass from former Yellow Jacket Kara Moore. The War Hawks took the 2-0 lead into the break.

In the second half, Moore picked up a second assist against her former team, passing near the goal line to sophomore Alyssa Daily. Daily kept the ball in play and chipped over to junior Hallie Rutherford, who was squared up in front of the net for the flick.

Defensively, the War Hawks earned their second shutout of the season. Three players split even time in net for McMurry, with freshman Cortlynn Boone totaling 30 minutes in the start. Freshman Priscella Caruso subbed in and played both sides of the half for her 30 minutes, then was subbed out for senior Cindy Villasana to preserve the shutout.

McMurry dominated the shot category with 21 shots and 12 shots on target. Howard Payne managed two shots, but neither required a save. The War Hawks also did not allow an HPU corner, but attempted seven of their own.

Daily led the team with six shots and three shots on net, while Moore and Rutherford each had four shots.

The War Hawks will play a home scrimmage on Sunday, March 21 at 5 p.m. against Cisco College and end the regular season with a conference match at Sul Ross State next Saturday, March 27 in Alpine.
