Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Men's tennis falls to Texas Permian Basin, 7-2

ABILENE, Texas – A rigorous battle with NCAA Division II opponent, University of Texas Permian Basin, resulted in a 7-2 non-conference loss for McMurry Men's Tennis at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center Saturday afternoon. The War Hawks are now 3-4 on the year while the Falcons improved to 3-5.

UTPB claimed a hard-fought victory over the War Hawks by earning two doubles points and claiming five of the six singles matchups.

"The men competed well today," said head coach Chris Breaux. " It came down to who wanted it more. We strive to win every matchup we are faced with but unfortunatly we were unable to walk away with the win today."

Despite the loss, there was notable match effort all around for the McMurry squad as they would not make the win easy for the Falcons by any means.

In No. 1 doubles, dynamic duo Carlos Martinez and Chase Daniell would earn an incredible 8-6 win against UTPB's Paul Schwieger and Jorge Garcia. The win marked the eighth straight doubles victory for Martinez and Daniell.

In No. 2 doubles, sophomore Reid Smith and senior Joseph Diaz would battle it out to the very last point before falling by tie-breaker to Enrique Sanchez and Bjorgvin Juliusson, 8-7 (8-6).

No. 3 doubles also resulted in a loss by tie-breaker after Connor Hogan and Dylan Bryant dropped to Lorenzo Oliveria and Fernando Siqueira, 8-7 (7-3).

McMurry got its lone singles victory from senior Chris Causer. Causer claimed the point with a straight set win over Siqueira, 6-4, 6-3.

Martinez, Daniell, Smith, Hogan and Diaz were defeated at the Nos. 1-5 contests, respectively.

McMurry will have another non-conference matchup before jumping back into conference play, facing Saint Mary's University (TX) on March 20. First serve is set for 8:30 a.m. at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center.
