War Hawks cap senior day with split against 'Roos

ABILENE, Texas – Kickstarted by a celebration of five seniors, McMurry Swimming finished fall competition with a split against Austin College Saturday afternoon inside the Phillips Family Center.

Behind seniors Jeremiah Atkins, Alec Satre and Myles Pickens, the McMurry men topped the 'Roos 170-71.

The women fell to the 'Roos by a 148-62 decision, but the loss didn't deter seniors Kristina Sullivan and Quolon Tinner's special day.

"I was happy to have the opportunity to celebrate our seniors at home," said head coach Arthur Wang. "McMurry hasn't had a home meet in nearly two years, so this was a unique experience for everyone. It's important for our scholar athletes to have steady competition every other week because it allows them to stay focused and look forward to improving. I am proud of how far we have come this season."

The men set a 1:42.09 mark in the 200-yard medley relay to notch their first points on the day.

Satre then dominated in the 1000-yard freestyle, earning a top finish with a time of 11:03.76. Satre shaved off nearly 14 seconds from his previous clocked 1000 free against Centenary back in October.

Sophomore Jaxon Batten claimed first in the 200-yard free in 1:52.29, while freshman Bryce Borak followed shortly after with a top finish in the 100 backstroke (57.42). Borak later went on to claim the 200 back (2:10.03), while Batten added the 500 free (5:16.11) to his win total.

Freshman Caleb Bush outlasted a competitive field in the 100-yard free, taking first with a time of 1:02.56. He also claimed the 200 breaststroke (2:20.47).

Sophomore Alfonso Santoya set a mark of 4:45.91 to win a tight race in the 400-yard individual medley after Atkins finished first in the 200 butterfly (2:12.96).

The men wrapped up the day with a win in the 200 free relay.

Men's swimming remains undefeated in dual matchups this season and continues to add to the dual win streak that dates back to November 15, 2019. The War Hawks have now won eight straight duals.

Lorin Mow led the way for the women, registering a personal best time in the 200 free at 2:09.96 to earn a top finish. Mow also finished first in the 200 fly (2:41.31) and the 100 free with a personal best time of 1:00.19.

Capping off their senior meet, Sullivan tagged in at second in the 1000-yard free with a time of 11:28.22. Tinner saw action in five total events and competed as the third leg in two relays.

The War Hawks are off until after New Year's when they will head to Sherman, Texas for the Austin College Invite on Jan. 15.
