White scores career high in setback to Ozarks

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – Freshman guard D'Asia White provided McMurry another offensive threat on Thursday night with a career high 14 points, but the effort would not be enough in an 81-75 loss to University of the Ozarks in Arkansas.

The War Hawks (9-15, 2-13 American Southwest Conference) made a second half run after trailing by eight at the half, pulling within one point with under 4:00 remaining. Ozarks (6-18, 1-14) then pulled away with a pair of baskets and late free throws, earning its first conference win of the season.

McMurry shot well in the game, going 30-58 on field goals for a 51.7 percent clip. The War Hawks also held the advantage over Ozarks behind the arc, shooting 5-12 for 41.7 percent.

Ozarks won the contest at the free throw line, shooting 23-32 for nearly 72 percent. The Eagles entered the contest as the ASC's leading free throw shooting team, averaging 74.0 percent. Meanwhile, the War Hawks finished 10-17 from the charity stripe in the six-point setback.

Despite White's career night, senior forward Skyler Reyna led McMurry with 20 points and seven rebounds. Reyna shot 9-11 from the field and added four assists.

White went 4-9 from the field, 4-5 from the free throw line and made both of her attempts behind the arc. Additionally, White had a game-high six assists, facilitating the offense.

Freshman post Destiny Mathews added 13 points, while fellow freshman forward Cassidy Melton chipped in 10 points. The duo each had four rebounds.

Freshman guard Taya Bridges had nine points in the contest, finishing 4-5 from the field and making her only attempt from three-point land. She fell two points short of a career best.

McMurry closes the season on Saturday at UT Dallas with opening tip scheduled for 1 p.m.
