Reyna climbs record book in season-ending loss to UT Dallas

RICHARDSON, Texas – McMurry Women's Basketball faced a tall task in their season finale on Saturday, as the War Hawks lost to American Southwest Conference champion UT Dallas by a final of 69-57 in Richardson, Texas.

The No. 17 Comets (21-4, 15-1 ASC) clinched the ASC regular season championship with the victory and will host the ASC Championship tournament next weekend. McMurry (9-16, 2-14 ASC) ends its season with the loss.

Saturday's game was the final collegiate contest for seniors Sarah Doherty and Skyler Reyna.

Reyna led the War Hawks with 17 points and 13 rebounds, marking her 10th double-double of the season and the 45th of her historic career. Reyna also competes her career as McMurry's third all-time leading scorer at 1,449 points and second all-time leading rebounder at 939 rebounds.

Doherty ended her final contest with eight points, shooting 2-7 behind the arc and 3-8 from the floor. She also had a game-high six assists. Doherty wraps up her career with 745 points (7.6 PPG) and with 133 career three-pointers. Her best three-point shooting season came as a senior, ending 2019-20 with 47 treys.

Freshman Destiny Mathews added 13 points and seven rebounds in the effort, while fellow freshman Cassidy Melton ended with nine points.

McMurry had 30 of its points come in the paint and 16 points off the bench.

UT Dallas saw most of its scoring from senior Victoria Pena, who dropped 32 points to match a season-high. Pena is UTD's all-time leading scorer.
