SEGUIN, Texas – McMurry University Men's Tennis netted its first win of the season Friday, defeating Texas Lutheran, 6-3, at the Ohlenbusch-Rinn Tennis Center.

The War Hawks narrowly missed sweeping doubles play, dropping the only point in a tiebreaker. Carlos Martinez and Chase Daniell won easily, 8-0, at number one with Joseph Diaz and Reid Smith winning 8-1 at number three.

At number two doubles, Brynson Harmon and Zach Miller suffered a heartbreaking defeat, falling 8-7, (7-1).

Martinez rolled through is matchup at number one, 6-0, 6-1 to give McM a two-point lead. Daniell cruised to a win at number two, as well, winning 6-3, 6-1. Diaz and Smith sealed the victory for the War Hawks with wins at number five and four singles, respectively.

Diaz won his match, 6-1, 6-4, while Smith won 6-2, 6-1.

The tough luck found its way back to Miller in singles play at number three. Miller rebounded from a 6-4 loss in set one with a 6-2 win in set two, but dropped the third set on an 11-9 tiebreaker. Trey Fambrough suffered a similar three-set defeat at number six, winning 6-1 in set one and falling 6-2 in set two. He lost his tiebreaker 10-7.

McMurry will look to keep the momentum going Saturday with two matches. The War Hawks visit Trinity at 9 a.m. before taking on Schreiner at 3 p.m.
