ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Women's Basketball ran into a hot-handed Concordia-Texas team on Saturday afternoon inside Kimbrell Arena, as the War Hawks fell to the Tornados, 95-69.
Concordia (7-12, 4-6 American Southwest Conference) made 15 three-pointers, shooting 55.6 percent from downtown for nearly half their scoring. McMurry (9-10, 2-8 ASC) went 1-12 behind the arc, falling below .500 for the first time this season.
The War Hawks also has 22 turnovers, but did outscore Concordia in the post with 44 points in the paint. Rebounding was also fairly even with the Tornados owning a slight 38-36 advantage.
McMurry had three double-digit scorers, led by senior Skyler Reyna with 15 points. Reyna entered the contest late in the second quarter, making her first appearance since last Thursday versus Hardin-Simmons due to sickness.
Senior Sarah Doherty added 10 points and went 4-4 from the free throw line, while freshman Abrelle Godfrey continued to show her post presence with 10 points and a team-best nine rebounds. Freshmen Taya Bridges and Destiny Mathews added nine points, while fellow rookie Cassidy Melton scored eight. Bridges was a perfect 3-3 from the field.
McMurry finished 25-55 from the field (45.5 percent) and 18-34 at the charity stripe (52.9 percent). CTX finished 32-64 on field goals for an even 50 percent and 16-26 from the line (61.5 percent).
The War Hawks will look to snap a six-game losing streak next week, welcoming Belhaven to Kimbrell Arena on Thursday, Feb. 6 at 5:30 p.m.
