ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Athletics announced its new #UnitedAsWarHawks initiative on Friday in correspondence to the department's dedication to diversity, inclusion and gender equity.
As part of this campaign, McMurry Athletics has appointed a Scholar-Athlete Diversity Council comprised of scholar-athletes from various teams within the athletics department. The council seeks to reflect the McMurry scholar-athlete population to include individuals with unique differences.
McMurry Athletics' Coordinator of Inclusion and Diversity, Larry Dockery, will work directly with the council as an advisor and advocate. Dockery serves as the primary contact and conduit for diversity and inclusion-related information from the NCAA, while also working with athletics administration to help maintain an environment that values cultural diversity and gender equity.
"At McMurry, our students, coaches and staff view differences as opportunities for growth," Dockery said. "We will encourage respectful dialogue and foster a culture that embraces individual dignity. Our Scholar-Athlete Diversity Council will lead the way as advocates for diversity and inclusion. I'm very excited about this great opportunity."
McMurry Athletics and the Diversity and Inclusion Committee will use the official hashtag #UnitedAsWarHawks to promote the initiative on social media.
