Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

War Hawks drop road contest at UMHB

BELTON, Texas – A pair of double-digit runs by Mary Hardin-Baylor proved too much to overcome for McMurry University Men's Basketball, as the War Hawks fell to the Crusaders 103-77 Saturday afternoon at the Mayborn Campus Center.

Tied at 30 with five minutes left in the first half after a three by senior guard Zacc Carter, the Cru (12-4, 4-3 ASC) went on an 18-3 run to close the half. Just shy of the midway point of the second, Carter hit another three to bring McM within 60-52.

Over the next four minutes, UMHB went on a 20-4 run to extend the lead to 80-56. The War Hawks (6-10, 3-4 ASC) could only get as close as 17 the rest of the way.

The first 15 minutes was a back-and-forth affair, as the teams traded the lead six times and were tied four times. UMHB broke a 12-12 tie with an 8-0 run, with McMurry slowly evening the game with the Carter three.

Carter scored a team-high 21 points for the War Hawks while also grabbing eight rebounds. Senior forward Mike Williams Jr. added 14 points, and senior forward Krishawn Terry chipped in a double-double of 10 points and 12 boards.

One of the better free throw shooting teams in the conference, the War Hawks shot just 9-for-18 from the stripe while UMHB was 23-for-32.

Guards Dedrick Berry Jr. and Colin Taylor each dished out four assists. McM finished with 20 for the game on 31 made baskets.

McMurry will now return home for five straight contests, and will face the Crusaders for the second time this season in three games. First up on the home stand is the Crosstown Showdown January 23 against Hardin-Simmons University at 7:30 p.m.
