Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Second half shooting woes result in loss to Cowboys

ABILENE, Texas – A cold-shooting second half for McMurry University Men's Basketball led to a 65-59 loss to rival Hardin-Simmons University Thursday night in Kimbrell Arena, in front of a season-high 1,189 fans.

McMurry led 32-30 at the break, but shot just 32.4 percent from the floor in the second half, including 0-for-14 from three. McM finished at just 16.7 percent from beyond the arc and 37.9 percent overall.

The War Hawks (6-11, 3-5 ASC) maintained their lead for the first five minutes of the second half, but a 10-1 run by the Cowboys (6-11, 2-6 ASC) gave Hsu at 43-38 lead midway through the half.

Hardin-Simmons would lead the rest of the way, with the lead never reaching double figures, but McM could never get back within one possession. The closest McM would get was four points on multiple occasions.

McMurry made a frantic push in the final minute, getting a layup by senior forward Krishawn Terry to pull within 62-57. The War Hawks pressed and got a steal, but were unable to finish it with a basket. They forced another quick turnover, but again came away empty.

Terry recorded his third double-double of the season with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. He also had four blocks. Freshman guard Cody LeBlanc led McMurry with 16 points. Senior guard Dedrick Berry Jr. added 11 points and four assists, while senior forward Mike Williams Jr. chipped in seven points and 10 boards.

After trailing early, McMurry grabbed the lead after the first media timeout and didn't look back going into the break.

The War Hawks will have the weekend off before resuming the home stand January 30 with a 7:30 p.m. tipoff against Mary Hardin-Baylor.
