ABILENE, Texas – It's time to dive into the pool, as McMurry University Swimming opens its 2019-20 season Saturday with a dual meet against the University of the Ozarks slated for 10 a.m. in the Phillips Family Center.
The dual against Ozarks marks the first of nine scheduled regular season meets, which includes four duals and five invites before the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships February 12-15 in San Antonio, Texas.
Despite losing its top senior on both the men's and women's side, the War Hawks bring back a strong group of talent and add a group of newcomers who look to contribute right away.
For the McM men, senior Dany Baki will lead the way, as well as sophomores Alec Satre and Ethan Sykes. Sykes and Satre paced the War Hawks in numerous events last season as freshmen. The men's roster features five freshmen this season.
Senior Jessica Gryder looks to lead the McM women into action this year. She led McMurry in the sprint events a year ago. Gryder is the only senior on the roster, as she leads a group that includes two sophomores and four freshmen. Juniors Cambria Jaramillo and Kaitlynn Cozma also look to take that next step as upperclassmen.
Following this weekend, McMurry will host two other duals this year against Austin College and Simpson College.
