TEXARKANA, Texas – McMurry University Men's Soccer hit the road for its final non-conference matchup of the regular season and dropped to an even record with a 6-2 loss to Texas A&M Texarkana Thursday evening.
The War Hawks are now 3-3 on the season and will commence American Southwest Conference play next Thursday against Belhaven in Abilene.
The Eagles drew first blood with a score from Austin Beck in the 21st minute. But it didn't take long for the War Hawks to answer the call, as senior Javi Mejia buried his third goal of the season to tie the contest. His shot in the 27th minute sunk in the bottom left corner for the equalizer.
Beck would go on to have a monster game for Texarkana, as he was involved on the next three goals with two assists and his second goal of the day to give his team a commanding lead.
McMurry's second goal of the game came from senior Jesus Sanchez in the 74th minute off a free kick. Sanchez now has three goals this year, tied for the team-lead with Mejia and Andres Martinez.
The War Hawks had seven shots with four on target, while Texarkana posted a 16-10 ratio.
With one week to rest, McMurry will open ASC play at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26 against Belhaven at Wilford Moore Stadium.
