PINEVILLE, La. – A late ninth inning rally wasn't enough as McMurry University Baseball was topped 11-6 Saturday afternoon at Louisiana College in an American Southwest Conference matchup.

After play was delayed after the first inning due to lightning, the Wildcats (24-6) struck first with four runs in the second inning.

Trailing 5-0 heading to the fourth, the War Hawks (7-23, 0-15 ASC) got a pair of runs back on a two-run single by centerfielder Josh Jimenez. However, the Wildcats responded with three runs in the bottom half and added one in the fifth and two in the seventh, as well.

McMurry would make a final rally in the ninth, when it pushed across four runs. The War Hawks got RBIs from right fielder Mike Gonzales, shortstop Payton Stokes and Jimenez in the frame, while left fielder Matthew Chalk scored on a wild pitch.

Jimenez went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs on the afternoon. Catcher Blaine McRay joined Jimenez with four hits while scoring two runs as the War Hawks outhit the Wildcats, 18-14.

Gonzales contributed three hits, while Stokes and first baseman Marty Carnahan each tallying two hits.

McMurry left 10 runners on base, as they stranded runners in scoring position in the first, second, sixth, seventh and eighth innings.

The War Hawks return home to Walt Driggers Field April 12-13 to host UT Dallas.
