ALPINE, Texas – McMurry University Men's Tennis picked up its second win in a row Friday, opening American Southwest Conference play with a 9-0 win at Sul Ross State University.
Carlos Martinez and Chase Daniell put McMurry on the board first with an 8-1 at number one doubles, followed by an 8-0 win by Trey Fambrough and Zach Miller at number three. The win came a little tougher at number two, as Chris Causer and Joseph Diaz battled to a 9-8 win.
In singles play, Daniell and Martinez each only lost one set apiece, with Daniell winning, 6-1, 6-0, and Martinez taking his match, 6-0, 6-1. Miller picked up a 6-1, 6-1 straight set win at number four, with Diaz earning the decision after splitting the first two sets, 4-6, 6-4 and the match already having been decided.
The final two matches were played as single sets, with Fambrough claiming an 8-3 win at number five and Matthew Santos an 8-1 win at number six.
McMurry returns to action Saturday at 9 a.m. by hosting Schreiner University at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center.
