ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Men's Tennis upped its winning streak to three games Saturday, collecting a 5-4 win over Schreiner University at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center.
Down 4-3, the War Hawks (4-8) closed strong with a pair of wins by Stone Coston and Zach Miller. Coston tied the match at 4-4 with a 6-0, 6-4 win at number five singles, while Miller sealed the victory with a 6-4, 6-3 win at number six.
McMurry held a 2-1 advantage after doubles play, with Carlos Martinez and Chase Daniell earning an 8-6 win at number one and Connor Hogan and Miller taking the point at number two, 9-8. Miller and Hogan won the tiebreaker, 7-2.
Martinez claimed the other singles point, winning 6-1, 6-2 at number one.
Both Daniell and Hogan went three sets in their respective singles matches at number two and three. After falling in set one, 6-1, Daniell rebounded with a 6-2 win before being defeated 6-2 in set three. Hogan won set one, 7-6 (7-5), but dropped sets two and three, 6-1 and 6-4.
McMurry stays at home for a pair of matches next weekend, beginning by welcoming Howard Payne University to the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center April 5 at 2 p.m.
