ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Men's Tennis cruised to its second American Southwest Conference victory Friday afternoon, defeating Howard Payne, 8-1, at the Seidel-Swagerty Tennis Center.
Carlos Martinez and Chase Daniell made quick work on the afternoon, winning 8-0 at number one doubles before sitting out singles play. Zach Miller and Connor Hogan won 8-3 at number two, while Chris Cause and Joseph Diaz won by default at number three.
The War Hawks (5-8, 2-0 ASC) picked up clean sweeps by Joseph Diaz and Trey Fambrough at numbers three and five, respectively, to begin singles play. Chris Causer won 6-0, 6-2 at number four, with Stone Coston taking a 6-2, 6-0 win at number two.
Getting the call at number one was Hogan, who battled for three sets. He handily won set one, 6-2, before dropping set two, 6-4. In the decisive third set, Hogan was defeated 10-6. Dylan Sisouphanh won by default at number six.
McMurry remains home to host UT Dallas Sunday at 3 p.m.
