TYLER, Texas – McMurry University Softball nearly knocked off UT Tyler in game one of their road doubleheader Friday evening, falling 1-0 to the Patriots. UTT won game two in five innings, 8-0.
The series will conclude Saturday at noon.

Junior pitcher Hope Schoeneman kept the Patriots (11-0) off the scoreboard for the first five innings before they scratched across a run in the sixth. They Patriots scored the run when the first two batters reached, but Schoeneman settled down to retire the next three batters.
Schoneman allowed just the one run on five hits while striking out two.
The War Hawks (7-9) loaded the bases with one out in the seventh, but the Patriots escaped with a fielder's choice to get the runner at home and end the game with a groundout to short. McMurry also left a runner in scoring position in the fifth.
Outfielder Ashley McClellan had two of the War Hawks' three hits.

The Patriots shut out the War Hawks in game two and scored seven of their runs in the third through fifth innings.
McMurry had two reach in the first innings when first baseman Rachel Ripley and designated player Kasey Woolard walked, but the War Hawks were unable to push across a run.
The War Hawks had two reach, as well, in the third along with getting runners in scoring position in the fourth and fifth.
Ripley, catcher Nina Hernandez and second baseman Avery McDaniel each had one hit for the War Hawks. Righty Cheyenne West was tagged with the loss allowing six runs on seven hits in 3.2 innings.
