ABILENE, Texas – Four players scored double figures for McMurry University Women's Basketball on Monday evening, as the War Hawks remained hot with an 84-64 win over Arlington Baptist inside Kimbrell Arena.
The War Hawks (5-1) drained a season-high 11 three-point shots and hauled in 58 rebounds to match a season high in the win.
With the victory, McMurry picks up its first-ever win over Arlington Baptist (2-4) in five attempts. Furthermore, the War Hawks are off to their best start since the 2011-12 campaign, where they finished with a 19-8 record.
Senior forward Skyler Reyna has led the charge the last four games, but Reyna would relinquish the spotlight to sophomore guard Brittany Rodgers on Monday. Rodgers set new career highs with 16 points and eight rebounds in 22 minutes of action to lead the War Hawks.
Rodgers and company fell behind early on, but would tie the contest at 13 apiece near the end of the first quarter. McMurry cruised to a double digit lead in the second frame, but the Patriots pulled within as many as three points in the third quarter. McM outscored ABU in the fourth quarter, 27-16, to seal the deal.
The freshmen duo of Kaitlyn Randall and Taya Bridges pitched in valuable time off the bench, sinking three treys apiece. Randall finished with 13 points in 17 minutes, while Bridges added 11 points in 15 minutes.
The veteran players also contributed Monday, as senior guard Sarah Doherty had 10 points fueled by a pair of triples, while junior point guard Francheska Aguino engineered the offense with a team-best six assists in 26 minutes of action.
Reyna led the team with nine rebounds, while freshman post Sidney McHenry added seven. Fellow freshmen forwards Abrelle Godfrey and Destiny Mathews each posted six rebounds.
The War Hawks will roll into December with momentum, as they hope to carry it over on Dec. 3 against Southwestern University. Tip-off from Kimbrell Arena in Abilene is set for 5:30 p.m.
