Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s soccer comes up short against UT Dallas

ABILENE, Texas – A quick goal in the second half allowed the McMurry men's soccer team to pull within a goal of UT Dallas on Thursday night at Wilford Moore Stadium, but a flurry of late goals by the Comets resulted in a 7-1 loss for the War Hawks.

McMurry drops one game below .500 with the defeat at 5-6 overall and 2-3 in conference play. Meanwhile, the Comets take a slight edge in the standings with an 8-3-2 overall record and 2-1-2 conference mark.

The Comets took a 2-0 lead into the half following early goals in the 10th and 18th minutes, but McMurry kept the deficit manageable heading into the second frame.

Scoring his first goal of the season, senior Jesus Gil put one through immediately in the second half to pull the War Hawks within a goal, 2-1. The score gave McMurry a wave of momentum, but would not hold up the rest of the way.

UT Dallas scored five unanswered goals, four of which came in the final 20 minutes. The final three goals came within four minutes of each other.

Gil and junior DJ Jaime each had shots for McMurry in the contest.

Freshman Mark Pelaez came up with five saves on the day, while junior Aidan Keane came up with one save in 11 minutes off the bench.

The War Hawks will look to right the ship on Saturday as they host University of the Ozarks on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 3:30 p.m.
