Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

War Hawks stumble late against Ozarks, 2-1

ABILENE, Texas – For the third time in four games, the McMurry War Hawks found itself on the wrong end of a one-goal loss, slipping against University of the Ozarks by a 2-1 final in Abilene on Saturday afternoon.

Both teams conceited own goals in the contest, but the difference maker came from the Eagles' Charleus Emmanuel Ritch in the 58th minute.

With the loss, McMurry drops its fourth straight contest to fall to 5-7 on the season and 2-4 in American Southwest Conference games. The Eagles move to 8-3-1 and have won eight of their last 10.

The Eagles forced the first goal of the game, taking the edge into the locker room. Coming out of the break, McMurry regained some momentum by forcing the equalizer with immense pressure from seniors Miguel Esteban Jr. and Jesus Sanchez on the Ozarks defense.

The Eagles shot 17 times but only put five shots on target with freshman Mark Pelaez racking up four saves. McMurry had four shots on the night, including two from Esteban Jr.

The Maroon and White will hope to respond on the road with two key road games next week. McMurry will face Sul Ross State on Thursday, Oct. 17 and Howard Payne on Saturday, Oct. 19. Both games are set to begin at 4:30 p.m.
