ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Volleyball was swept at home by University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Tuesday night, falling 19-25, 22-25, 21-25 to the Crusaders in an American Southwest Conference match.
The War Hawks (13-2, 4-1 ASC) fell behind 3-0 early in the first set, but quickly rattled off three straight points to even the set. McMurry never led in the set, as the Cru (11-1, 6-0 ASC) slowly pulled away for the 25-19 victory.
McMurry staged a late comeback in the second set, getting within two after falling behind by six, but were unable to keep the momentum.
The War Hawks scored the first point in the third set, grabbing their first lead of the match. They would lead 4-2, but the Cru scored the next four points and never looked back as they handed the War Hawks their first ASC loss.
Senior middle blocker Madison Reed hit .412 on her way to seven kills, second to senior outside hitter Jasmine Jones' team-high eight. Reed also had three assisted blocks.
Defensively, senior libero Odalis Rodriguez paced the War Hawks with 15 digs. Junior right side hitter and junior setter Emarie James each finished with seven digs. James also had 14 assists, while sophomore setter Lauryn Davis led the War Hawks with 15 helpers.
McMurry heads across town Thursday at 7 p.m. for an American Southwest Conference matchup at Hardin-Simmons University.
