War Hawks ready to make splash in 2018-19

ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Swimming opens its 2018-19 season Friday, when the War Hawks host Austin College in a season-opening dual for both teams at 6 p.m. in the Phillips Family Center.

On the women's side, the War Hawks swept the Kangaroos in a pair of duals last season. With the loss of Robyn Remschel to graduation, senior Monica Flores steps into the lead role for McMurry. Flores placed eighth in the 200-yard individual medley at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships last season.

For the McMurry men, senior Jerick Pena is back for another year for the War Hawks. Pena placed fourth in the 100-yard backstroke and fifth in the 200-yard backstroke in the 2018 SCAC Championships. The War Hawks also return the majority of their swimmers who helped place in the finals of a number of relays at the SCAC Championships.

McMurry's women's team also adds three freshmen to the mix, as well as sophomore transfer Sarah Stephenson from NCAA II Oklahoma Christian University. The McMurry men have brought in four freshmen to compete in 2018-19.
