War Hawks shut out on the road

 
ROUND ROCK, Texas – The McMurry University men's soccer team opened its final road trip of the season by suffering a 3-0 loss at Concordia University-Texas, in an American Southwest Conference match at the Round Rock Complex. The War Hawks slipped to 4-7-3 overall and 3-5-1 in ASC contests, while the Tornados upped their season total to 8-4-1 and 7-2 in ASC bouts.
 
McM goalkeeper Aidan Keane had to withstand a first-half onslaught by CUTX making four of his five saves, as the Tornados out-shot the War Hawks, 8-1.  Keane allowed Concordia a lone goal in the 39th minute and a 1-0 halftime lead.
 
In the second stanza, the McM offensive attack came to life, peppering nine shot attempts at the CUTX defense, with five headed on-goal (only to be turned away by tornados' goalie Rob Oakley.
 
Concordia managed to add two more goals in the final 45 minutes, tallying in the 69th and 73rd minutes for the 3-0 final score. Overall, CUTX out-shot McM by a 15-10 margin for the match.
 
CUTX also kept the War Hawks' defense busy with 10 corner kicks, seven in the first half alone. McMurry had four corners, with three coming in the second half of action.
 
Senior Rafael Lara led the team with three shot attempts. Miguel Esteban Jr. took two tries, with both going on-goal. 
 
McMurry will continue its two-game road trip with a game versus the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday. Match time is slated for 3:30 p.m. in Belton.
