War Hawks to face Louisiana College for Homecoming 2018

 
ABILENE, Texas -  McMurry University football will be looking to win its second-consecutive game when it takes to the turf on Saturday for its annual Homecoming Game versus Louisiana College. The War Hawks' (2-4, 2-3 ASC) bout against the Wildcats (2-3, 2-2 ASC) will be the 88th Homecoming Game in school history.
 
Saturday's game will almost mark a milestone in McMurry football history. When the War Hawks take on the Wildcats, it will be the 900th game played in the football program's history.
 
Louisiana College currently sits in fifth place in the American Southwest Conference standings.  McMurry is tied for sixth place.

HOMECOMING DATES:  McM has an all-time record of 45-40-2 on Homecoming.   This is the second time McMurry has played Louisiana College in a Homecoming Game, with the other coming in 2003 (a 34-18 win for LC).
 
OPPONENT AT-A-GLANCE: Louisiana College enters the game with an overall record of 2-3 (2-2 ASC). The Wildcats began the season with a pair of tough losses to NCAA division I foe Alcorn State and then to American Southwest Conference foe - and nationally-ranked - Hardin-Simmons University. LC then bounced back with back-to-back victories over Southwestern University and Sul Ross State University.  Last week, the Wildcats dropped a tough decision at home versus Texas Lutheran University, 41-36. 
 
LC is led quarterback Mason Jordan, who has thrown for 682 yards in just two games played and averages a completion ration of better than 48 percent (47-of-99). Jordan has eight touchdown throws to his credit. JoJo Robinson and Drake Battaglia average 16.7 and 15.2 yards per catch, respectively. On defense, linebacker Orel Ledet Jr. notched his 300th career tackle in the loss to TLU last week and has a team-leading 53 tackles, overall.
 
MCM AT-A-GLANCE: McMurry (2-4, 2-3 ASC) notched its second win - and its first on the road - of 2018 last Saturday with a 27-20 victory at Belhaven University. Junior quarterback Kevin Hurley Jr. led the War Hawks' offense by completing 20-of-35 passes for 352 yards and three aerial TDs. Hurley Jr. also rushed for one score, giving him a hand in all four of his team's scores.  Eriel Dorsey registered his third-consecutive 100-plus yard receiving game – and fourth overall – by making eight grabs for 130 yards.
 
WHEN LAST THEY MET:  McMurry University's football team was unable to come back from its first half deficit at Louisiana College, suffering a 52-34 defeat at Wildcat Stadium in 2017.  Louisiana College blew the game open during the final eight minutes of the first half.  The Wildcats scored 21 unanswered points to take a 42-14 lead into the halftime locker room. Kevin Hurley finished the evening completing 21-of-32 passes for 367 yards and a pair of TDs for McMurry. Hurley also had 41 rushing yards and scored twice on the ground, as well. On defense, Josh Smith and Reagan Miller each booked nine tackles for McM.
 
ASC INDIVIDUAL STATISTICAL LEADERS:  Kevin Hurley ranks 2nd in the ASC in passing yards per game, averaging 230.2 yards through the air per outing and is also #2 in Total Offense at 239.5 y.p.g.;  Spencer Knox is #3 in the ASC in kickoff returns, at 23.9 yards per return in his 14 attempts; McM wide receiver Eriel Dorsey leads the ASC at 114.5 receiving yards per game and is #2 in receptions per game (6.3).; Sophomore linebacker Josh Smith ranks #2 in the ASC for total tackles, at 10.7 per game; McM freshman Darreion McLean ranks No. 2 in the ASC with 5.0 sacks, thus far, in 2018.
 
MELLOW YELLOW:  McM is the second-least penalized team in the ASC, averaging 49.5 yards in penalties per game.
 
CHART CLIMBER:  QB Kevin Hurley is ranked #11 on McMurry's career passing list with 2,827 yards. Next up at #11 Gabe Rodriguez (3,237/2013) and #10 Brett Lang (3,239/1977-79).
