GAMEDAY LINK: War Hawks Travel to Southwestern in Week #2

GEORGETOWN, Texas – It will be a battle of two teams looking to both gain their first win of the year, as well as get off on the right foot in the American Southwest Conference race, when McMurry University's (0-1, 0-0 ASC) football team travels to Southwestern University (0-1, 0-0 ASC) on Saturday evening. Kickoff at the Georgetown ISD Stadium is slated for 7 p.m.

Fans can listen to the game locally on KSLI 1280 AM, with the pre-game show beginning at 6:40 p.m.  David Bacon and Jason Feltz call all the action.  Audio, video and live statistics links can be found on the McMurry Athletics home page (mcmurrysports.com).

This will be the 21st meeting between the War Hawks and the Pirates. The two schools are deadlocked at 8-8-4 in the all-time series. The two schools first played in 1930, but SU suspended its football program after the 1950 season and did not restart it until 2012. McM did not revive its series with the Pirates until 2015, losing that game (as well as last year's meeting).

NOTES:
*This is the 885th football game in McMurry football history and is the 92nd year of the sport on campus.

*With four ties in the series, McM teams have played to a draw with Southwestern more times than with any other team in its history.

*In last year's meeting, McM had a 17-0 lead in the first half (with no offensive touchdowns), but gave up 24 unanswered points.

*Last week's 10-0 loss at Oklahoma Panhandle State was the first time that the War Hawks had been shutout since the season opener of 2012 (when it lost to then-NCAA II #9-ranked Abilene Christian University, 51-0).

*McM's Jordan Washington had his seventh career interception last week.  As a team, the War Hawks picked off three Aggie aerials.
