ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University women's soccer could not withstand a second-half outburst by visiting Huston-Tillotson University, suffering a 4-0 on-conference loss at Wilford Moore Stadium. The War Hawks fell to 1-2 on the year, while the Rams improved to 2-0.
The two teams battled evenly for the first 35 minutes. However, with 10 minutes remaining until the intermission, the Rams' Kimberlin Palacios drove on McM goalkeeper
Cindy Villasana for the only goal of the first half. The shot totals were fairly close, as well, with the Rams taking eight tries and the War Hawks five, for an 18-9 total in shots for the game.
However, in the second 45 minutes, the visitors seemed to find another gear and out-shot McMurry 10-4. The Rams also added three second half scores against sophomore
Jordan Gregory (who took over in the McM nets the second half), making the final 4-0 score.
Gregory and Villasana each had three saves during their respective stints in goal.
Freshman
Wren Arevalo and junior
Cristen Lumbreras each had two shot attempts. Lumbreras only played in the second half to collect her shots.
The War Hawks are hoping for some
déjà vu on Thursday, when the team once again travels to Keene, Texas to face Southwestern Adventist University, for a game added late. The War Hawks and Knights kickoff is slated for 5 p.m. McM topped SAU, 6-0, in the season opener last Friday.
