ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University volleyball evened its American Southwest Conference record at 4-4, thanks to its 3-0 victory over Howard Payne University at Kimbrell Arena. The War Hawks (11-6, 4-4 ASC) topped the visiting Yellow Jackets (6-11, 4-4 ASC) by scores of 25-18, 25-19, 25-22.
It was the ninth time this season that McM has swept its opponent and the second time in less than 24 hours (having also disposed of Sul Ross State, 3-0, on Friday evening).
Just like the win last evening, it was sophomore
Justice McGowan who paced the War Hawks' attack. McGowan mashed 12 kills and had a .500 attack average. She also had a match-leading five blocks and three digs, as well.
Jasmine Jones also had her second-straight match double figures for kills. Versus the Yellow Jackets, Jones booked 11 kills. Junior
Madison Reed was the third War Hawk to hit double-digit kill totals, with 10.
Reed also had a .409 attack average.
The setter tandem of
Lauryn Davis and
Emarie James combined for 46 of McMurry's 49 assists. Davis registered 26 helps and James 20. Davis and James had 11 and 10 digs, respectively.
Libero
Odalis Rodriguez had her sixth math with 20-plus digs. Rodriguez had 22 digs to top all back row players. As a team, the War Hawks had 75 digs, compared to 55 by the Yellow Jackets.
