KERRVILLE, Texas - For the ninth time this season, the McMurry University volleyball team swept an opponent, this time registering a 3-0 win at Schreiner University in a non-conference bout at the Stephens Family Center. The War Hawks (12-6) defeated the Mountaineers (0-15) by set scores of 36-34, 25-18, 25-18.

It was also the third-consecutive sweep for McM's team.

McMurry got out of the blocks fast in set one, so much so that the Mountaineers exhausted both of their timeouts as the War Hawks reached 15 points. But SU would chip away at the deficit and eventually lead, 17-16. From there the teams battled back and forth the rest of the way before McM finally tied the match and tallied two-consecutive points for the 36-34 win.

Set two was controlled by McMurry from start to finish. The Mountaineers got to within 18-15, which led to a timeout by McM head coach
Cammie Petree. After that stoppage, McM closed out the set on a 7-3 run to win 25-18.

In the third set, McM took a 13-12 to force a Mountaineers' timeout, after which the War Hawks extended their advantage to 17-12. That elicited the final Schreiner timeout of the set. From there McM would close it out by a 25-18 score.

Jordyn Burnell had a career-high – and match-leading - 17 kills. Burnell also posted an impressive .424 attack average. She also helped out in the back row with 13 digs.

Jasmine Jones was the only other War Hawk with double-digit kills at 13.Â
Justice McGowan narrowly missed double figures with nine kills.

Sophomore setter
Emarie James had 31 assists, but also had a good attacking night. James had six kills in 11 attempts, with no errors, for a .545 attack average.

Junior libero
Odalis Rodriguez had a match high 18 digs. Teammate
Christian Brown contributed 14 digs, as well.

The War Hawks will be off until they host the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on October 10 (6 p.m.) at Kimbrell Arena.
