CONWAY, Ark. – McMurry University men's soccer closed out its season-opening two-game road trip with 1-0 loss to Rhodes College, in a game played at Hendrix College. The loss dropped the War Hawks to 1-1, on the year, while the Lynx are also 1-1 in 2017.
The two teams played to a 0-0 stalemate through the first half. McM goalkeeper
Alex Chavez and RC's Patrick Wilkerson each had one save in the opening segment. In the second half, Chavez had one save and Wilkerson was peppered a bit more by the War Hawks as he made three saves.
McMurry out-shot the Lynx by an 8-6 margin, as well. McM's
Javi Mejia and
Jesus Sanchez each had a pair of shots – both on goal – but came away empty handed. Mejia and Sanchez were the only War Hawks to put the ball directly on goal.
Rhodes netted the only goal of the game at the 58:16 juncture. Mark Robinson to a pass from Ian Schiller and put it past Chavez for the goal, 1-0.
McMurry's men will travel to Southwestern Adventist University on Thursday (Sept. 7) for a non-conference match. Kickoff in Keene, Texas will be at 7 p.m.
