KEENE, Texas – Junior
Rafael Lara scored a pair of goals to lead the McMurry University men's soccer team to a 6-0 road win at Southwestern Adventist University. The War Hawks improved to 2-1 on the year with the non-conference win.
The trio of Lara, senior
Matt Hernandez and newcomer
Diego Paz all played a role in getting the mcM team off to a 3-0 lead within the first 17 minutes of the contest. Hernandez set the ball to Lara for the match's first score in the seventh minute of play and then repeated the feat by assisting on Paz's goal in the 14th minute.
Lara notched his second goal in the 17th minute of action, with Paz credited with the assist.
The War Hawks made it 4-0 at the half by adding a goal in the 30th minute. Another McM newcomer-
Mazin Elhassan – netted his second goal of the season, unassisted.
McMurry added some second half icing on the cake. Sophomore
Javi Mejia hit the back of the net with his second goal of 2017 and newcomer
Saul Solorazano also connected for his first tally in the Maroon & White.
As might be expected, McM out-shot the Knights by a convincing 28-3 margin. 15 of the War Hawks' attempts were directly on goal.
McM goalkeepers
Alex Chavez (first half) and
Francisco Avilez (second half) combined on the team's second shutout of the year. Each had one save, as well.
